Human Machine Interface (HMI) is that space which provides interaction possible between humans and machines. The purpose of this interaction is to effectively operate and control the machinery. The machine would simultaneously feeds back information that supports the operator’s decision process – Computer operating systems and process controls to quoted as examples. While creating interfaces, disciplines such as ergonomics, psychology, etc., are considered. The goal of designing user interface is to make it easy, efficient and user friendly for the operator working on it. Most popular expression is graphical user interface for HMI on computers. HMI can be installed in an office based Windows computer to communicate with a much specialized computer in the plant area, such as PAC (Programmable Automation Controller, PLC (Programmable Logical Controller) or even DCS (Distributed Control System). Simulating a plant in the office is a facility that some of the high quality HMI systems enable. PLC program could be developed using Simulation resulting in ease and comfort to test their program without even having single equipment or a device. This facility will help plants during start-up time.
